While most of the articles that have been posted about Steve Jobs have been focused on his contributions to the technical field, there are many other areas where he has had a huge impact. One that is not often discussed is his contributions to the home and how we live our daily lives. His products are so common in the home that this contribution is overlooked by many.

The Apple Macintosh made computers a household item. Up to that point, computers were often used by schools and businesses for processing information and were more expensive than most items, often requiring loans and extra personnel. The Macintosh made computing fun and useful for the home. Many people check and respond to emails before even getting out of bed, so this step was revolutionary in many respects. (more…)

There aren’t many things we can do without our wallet or purse. We use it to hold many important items, such as identification and forms of payment that we use to buy things or pay for things whether we use cash, debit cards or credit cards. It is a real shame when our wallet or purse is stolen or lost. It can be a real hassle to get a new I.D. or driver’s license and new credit cards. (more…)

Many companies are easily identified by their logo. Having a cool logo is important as many people don’t even notice the name of the business. McDonald’s is a great example of this as almost everyone, including those in Africa and Russia know the golden arches. They see the McDonald’s log and instantly know what it represents, inexpensive food that is affordable on current salaries at a good value and they know they will be getting quick service and good food for the price that they paid. Regardless of where they go, they can count on the consistency and quality. This is a good way to entrench yourself in the minds of millions. A good logo can make or break you and if you do not stick with the same one, you may just get lost in the shuffle. Another great example of a company that knows this is 7-11. Their large 7 logo is instantly identifiable by millions of Americans as a place to get a Slurpee or some gas. Their convenience stores may be a little more expensive, but you have to pay extra for the convenience. They are all over the United States and seem to be on every corner. (more…)

People play the lottery every week, often two times a week and spend too money hoping that they will win the big jackpot. Of course, the chances of them winning are very low and they are well aware of that fact, but turn to payday loans even after wasting it. The dream of a life that is free from worry about money and the ability to buy whatever they want when they want to do so. This is often very unrealistic, but someone does win almost every week. Whether it is a few hundred dollars or a few million, it is exciting to win the lottery or on a slot machine after inserting a quarter. The thrill of winning often overshadows the amount won, so people don’t mind winning a few bucks, it’s fun. Other people forgo the gambling and simply take the money that they need. Bank robberies and other types of theft happen all the time. Many of the people who commit these crimes are desperate and need money to take care of a drug habit or even their families. The lure of money is universal and many turn into totally different people when money is placed in front of them. (more…)
