National Payday Scholarship 2012 Official Entry SealBy: Brandi Welch

Have you ever had a dream that you couldn’t stop chasing? Or maybe a dream you only wished you could chase. Many people today live in fear to chase their dream if they believe it is out of their financial reach. They let the excuse of today’s economy hold them down. Everyone forgets that it has always taken that leap of faith with short-term financing to go after that dream. Your dreams are only as big as you let them be. If you dream of going to school to get a higher education or starting a personal business like Mary Kay, we all have a different path to get take to get where we want to go. Most hide when they see that they’ll need financial assistance. Don’t give up; if you do then what are you working towards in life, what is keeping you going? (more…)

“Money? Money? Lets go shopping!” This is the noise I heard every morning my mother got paid. She be dancing around the room doing her version of the 1980′s Running Man. This day always put a simile on our faces knowing that we can have a day to pamper ourselves. My mom being a single mother of two deserved it and still do. I was born and raised in Brooklyn all my life and moved around from neighborhood to neighborhood more times to count. Sadly, our monthly shopping days came to an abrupt end sometime last year. After my mother lost her job our family has been struggling. My mom my now two-year-old brother and I are barely making it by. For after paying the bills and the rent and grocery shopping our money is partially gone. The terms pampering ourselves are never spoken of anymore. (more…)

National Payday Scholarship 2012 Official Entry SealBy: Jordan Hause

I moved to Florida two years ago to follow a dream; a dream of becoming a fitness coach helping people. I moved to Florida knowing no one leaving all my family and friends behind. I moved down here to better myself, but instead I have run into finical issues. When I first moved down here I applied to over fifteen places and taco bell was the only place to hire me. So, you can imagine living on your own making 7.68 an hour is very tough, especially when you’re trying to go to college. All I do is work 40 hours a week at this job and in my free time volunteer at my church working with the kid’s football program and I also help do security for my church because it is rather large. Helping me with this payday would be simply. It would help me get one more step closer to my dream. To my dream of helping people in the health field improving lives and overall saving them from bad health decisions. (more…)

Entry 039: Short Term Financing

National Payday Scholarship 2012 Official Entry SealBy: Christine Cesa

My life has been filled with great difficulty. I began life in a very difficult way, and while I did have parents. My life was filled with much trauma. I experienced a great amount of abuse, pain, and even sexual – slavery. I did not have the experience of many people, which would entail safety, security, love, and abundance. I have always had dreams, which were much larger than my own circumstances and myself. I always wanted more than my life currently held or could offer, and wanted to help others and offer hope to a lost and dying world. I in effect had no idea how to obtain or get to this goal. (more…)

Entry 038: Sometimes Life Doesn’t go According to Plan

National Payday Scholarship 2012 Official Entry SealBy: Abigail Chambers

I was a typical kid for much of my life, loved swimming in my grandpa’s pool, worshipped my big sister, hated eating my vegetables. I started swimming competitively in middle school, and it changed my life. Swimming helped me deal with my parent’s divorce and a serious illness. I put everything I had into swimming, all my time, all my energy, my family’s money. We paid club fees for a private, elite club and then paid for numerous practice suits and expensive racing suits that had to be replaced often. (more…)

How can short-term financing of any kind benefit a person’s life? There are many answers to this question, and in every essay a different answer. This is to be expected for each applicant has a different story to tell. Perhaps they will have a story that bears truth of the many trials that they have faced, or perhaps they will present a story that tells of a character that will save the world. No matter the story, all applicants are deserving of the reward at stake. However, this story will not only capture the eye of some, but hopefully draw in many curious ones as well. (more…)

National Payday Scholarship 2012 Official Entry SealBy: Nicholas Olmeda

Occasionally, college students in the workforce have a payday where they feel a sense of stability and security as they open their checks. As the moment hits its peak they began to realize there is a phone bill payment due or their car is barely going to make it out of the parking lot unless they make it to the nearest gas station. This shift of emotions totally ruins the excitement of receiving a paycheck knowing that it will all be gone within a couple hours. Money is surely not everything, but money surely does make someone’s day run much smoother than the rest. (more…)

Entry 035: The Importance of Short-term Financing

National Payday Scholarship 2012 Official Entry SealBy: Marc Donal Telfort

Many students around the community or the world have been able to attend college and achieved many great things in life because of the short-term financing that they received at some point in their lives. I believe that financial aid by fafsa and some types of scholarships are the best types of short-term financing that a student can hope for because these types of aids help a student not only to pay for and attend school; these type of aids also keep a student motivated throughout that person career and help that student to build his or her confident. In addition, short-term financing can help not only student, but it can also help anybody that needs some financial assistant in life. But my focus is on talking about the importance of short-term financing in a student’s life. Since I am a student and apply for this scholarship because of school purposes, I decided to write this paper based on my point of view and my personal experience. (more…)

I am a person who has parents that depend on others to survive. My mother quit high school, and my dad (even though he graduated high school) never attended college. They have to work twice as hard for little to nothing to survive on. I refuse to be like my parents. If it was not for dreams and financing I would not have attempted to go to college. There would have been no way, and when I got approved for financial aid there was a huge weight lifted off of my shoulders. Yes, I have received my AA degree, but that was only through financial aid. If I was not eligible for any help I would not have a higher education than my parents. I am still striving to go after my dream to become a psychologist. I want that major degree so I don’t have to strive every single day of my life just to provide for my family. I know that nothing in life comes easy, but not being able to provide for yourself let alone a family is twice as hard facing than working hard for a degree to go into a field you love. (more…)
