“Support the Troops” has been a glorious rallying cry from every corner of our society the last few years. People tend to be very vocal about respecting the efforts made by our men and women in uniform – until they take off that uniform. The support (financially, mentally, psychologically, socially) for veterans is not nearly at the level of active-service soldiers.
Memorial Day is the day to change that. Take the opportunity to do something bold, show respect to the fallen, and to pay tribute to America’s soldiers in a meaningful way. (more…)

The expenses that go along with the Academy Awards ceremony are often overlooked and rarely mentioned. We’re not talking about the tickets the stars get to go to the Oscars, or the popcorn you buy when watching the Oscars at home; it’s the cost that goes into winning an Oscar that we are considering. The statue itself isn’t all that expensive costing an average of $400 to make, but the time and sweat put into each of these movies is worth far more than all the Oscar statues ever awarded. (more…)

Around the world, countries emblazon their currency with figures of historical importance. In 1928 the Secretary of Treasury of the United States, Harold Theodore Tate, chose those who would be on the bills with the only stipulation being that these people had to be deceased. A lot of the faces you see on today’s bills were already in circulation at the time, making it easy for Tate to decide. Although most of the bills feature important presidents, a couple of equally influential citizens made it into the mix.

The Naughties, as 2000 to 2009 have come to be called (what did you think this post was about?) had some of the best Super Bowl commercials of all time. Every year we gather around the warm glow of the tube and take part in something that has become as American as apple pie – watching two teams battle for the Lombardi trophy and laughing our butts off at the commercials. We’ve come to expect great things from each 30 second spot, and the naughties are to blame. Companies pushed the envelope year after year to make the commercials edgier, racier and funnier than the previous years’.

First National Bank of Mom and Dad). Most kids will blow through it, and when they need more they’ll have no problem coming back for another withdrawal. We both know that this doesn’t last forever. Eventually kids grow up and have to learn all about money, its responsibilities and its consequences.

It’s a fact of the recession that more adult kids have boomeranged back home to weather bad economic times. In fact, it’s estimated about 20 percent or more of 25 to 34-year olds are still living with their parents. While it may be an ideal situation for young adults it can become a financial strain for parents who have to foot the bill a lot longer than they had planned. Without careful planning, this type of situation can derail retirement savings and play constant chaos with the budget. Experts suggest that if your kid comes home again in adulthood, it’s time to change the rules of the game so you don’t end up ruining your own financial health to keep them solvent. (more…)
