My best friend is my newborn son, 3 months old. He was diagnosed with Down syndrome at birth. My husband and I have decided that it is better for me to quite my job to stay at home full time with our son. We have been very blessed so far; my current job offers wonderful health insurance so all of our medical bills have been taken care of. Although this is such a wonderful benefit for our family we feel it will be much more beneficial for our son if I stay at home to raise him. We want to be sure that our son's developmental years are all that they can be. He won't get the same attention with just any daycare. With Down syndrome children develop at a much slower pace. He will have weekly therapists for his development and we have been told that as much at home support and encouragement that he can get will ensure that he continues reach all his millstones. Since we will be giving up our current medical coverage, to rely on my husband’s coverage, I would use an extra $300 as a savings for my son's upcoming medical bills. Down syndrome carries a list of possible health problems; with one less income and a change of insurance coverage we are going to need any extra money that we can save for his future.

Now that I’ve grown up I realize that my best friend is, in fact, my family. A few years ago my sister went through a fairly messy divorce and moved to Florida with her daughter. My brother, my mom, and I live in the Chicago area. Needless to say, it’s been awhile since all of us have been together in one place at the same time. In just over a month now, my mom will be having her 70th birthday. I would love to be able to fly my sister and my niece here as my mom’s birthday present. It’ll be nice to have the family together again, and I think it’ll make my mom’s birthday very special – as it should be.
Well I think there is not enough money in this world to take the place of all she has done for me. I am a single mother of 2 girls and she is a single parent of 3. I've been trying to finish school for my RN and she has taken the responsibility of my children when I am away from home to help me finish this goal. She is responsible for getting my children to and from school and feeding them breakfast and dinner until I am able to get home. Also, on the nights that I have to work she is with my children all night to help me financially stay ahead and not have to pay a sitter. She is a great person and does a great job with mine as well as with hers. I would probably give her the money to take her to have a day to herself to be pampered and to do whatever she wanted. My best friend and I have known eachother for 18 years. We met back in 6th grade when my parents were going through a divorce. She was my shoulder to lean on then and she continues to be that shoulder today. We both have young children and full time jobs so our schedules often keep us from getting together or even talking for months at a time. But no matter how long its been we always seem to pick up just as if we had spoken yesterday. If I had $300, the two of us could take a trip where we could lay in the sun and drink a margarita and just have some fun for ourselves.
If I had $300 to give to my best friend. I would donate it to a charity or non profit organization in her name. My best friend died suddenly 6 years ago. She was my friend from childhood, we grew up together, did everything. She still is the most amazing person I have ever known. She died just 8 days before her 21st birthday. Still with being gone for years she still is the one person i tell everything to. I miss her terribly and anything to keep her name/memory alive takes high priority to me.
