What Is This Advance For Cash Really For?
When you hear a jet flying by overhead, do you stop in wonder what the final destination for that plane is? Perhaps the query runs quickly through your head, and is just as quickly forgotten as you continue your advance towards wherever it is that you are off to. The next time you see a jet making its way above you, take a moment to halt your advance towards your job, to the cash machine, or wherever else you were out and about for, and let your thoughts fill for a moment with the possibilities of where you can imagine that flight going to.
The world that we engage in is often quite busy in its constant advance towards cash and the rewards that cash can buy and/or bring. Too often, we allow ourselves to become a pawn in this world, allowing ourselves get caught up in the rapid tide of advance that others feed into our heads. How often are you told what you need each and every day? More cash, better computers, faster cars, better clothes, the list goes on and on. But in the end, what is it really all for? Do you really want these things, whether it is more cash or just the things that you can buy with it?
Cash is nothing more than a symbol that is recognized as a measure of exchange. In and of itself, cash is a worthless thing, having no intrinsic value. However, we have allowed ourselves to have such intense desires for things that others have convinced us we need, that we have gotten caught up in an sweeping advance for more of everything. It doesn't matter that we may have never wanted that new hat, or that new television, before we were shown that there was something better, and that with enough cash we could have it.
Each and every day we renew our agreement to accept as needed what others advance towards us as necessary. We seem to forget what free will is actually for. It may be there so as to fulfill our desires, like making our advance towards the almighty god that we have made of cash, but the other side is that free will is there for us to exercise in freeing ourselves from the wants that others would have us succumb to. Even more importantly, free will is something that must be exercised, like any muscle of the body, to free ourselves of the constant, child-like demands of our own desires.
The next time you see that plane fly by overhead, hear the advance of a distant train, or just the site of a tree or the sound of a gust of wind, allow yourself to be taken with that moment of conscious existence. That moment is free of the demands of the outside world, and, more importantly, is free of the demands of your own inner child. Breathe in that moment, for eternity is in each and every one of them. Cash in your desire for a time to simply breathe and feel yourself as alive and conscious of this fact. You might be surprised at what you can discover when you stop your seeming inexorable advance for what you think you need to do, and simply just look at the world around and within you.
