Shoestring Budget Means Vacationing Smarter
Free travel is not all that possible for most of us, but cheap travel definitely is. There are those who are not that well off financially, or may even be bad off financially, who say that they just don't have the finances or the skills needed for travel, or worse don't have the credit to get advanced money to take a trip. Give yourself more credit than that. Almost anyone can come up with the money needed for travel, without having to take out a loan. Evenif someone has bad or no credit, many people have taken dream trips, simply by planning ahead and using the free resources the internet can provide and information from various agencies. As far as skills or know-how goes, again, give yourself a little more credit. Information on travel is free to anyone who has access to a library, the internet, or someone who is an experienced traveler.First of all, take out a loan on your own time. If you do want to travel, and do so as close to free as possible, you will need to devote some time to information gathering. This means that it is not enough to simply pick up a single travel guide and skim through it. You must think in terms of budget traveling. Give this area of travel some credit, as some of the best travel accounts come out of those who have gone the route of shoestring, nearly free travel.
You can find enormous quantities of budget travel information for free on the internet. Some of the most information rich places to look are on the sites of experienced travelers, or the forum areas of travel sites. For example, you could ask something like, "I want to travel to Europe, but I want to do so without having to take out a loan on my future. Any tips on how to do this on the cheap?" You will probably discover that you will be inundated with more information than you will know what to do with. You may be given some bad information on such pages, but much of it can prove to be the most useful information you could hope to find. To its credit, the budget travel community is quite good at pointing out bad information when it sees it, and does an excellent job of self-regulation.
The most important thing to do is to begin your quest. Some of the best searches you could make would be for "cheap travel", "budget travel" or some other combination of "travel" and words describing inexpensive or free. The library also has many budget travel resources available to the public. The Lonely Planet guides and website should be given credit as being one of the most excellent sources for information on budget traveling available today. Give yourself no more bad excuses for not hitting the road. Find where it is that you want to go and then use your time to figure out how to get there.
