In addition, those that are aware they only owe the IRS money usually wait until the last minute to postpone paying them off.If you are one of these last minute filers, here are a few tips to ensure that you get all of your necessary tax work done on time. It’s important to make sure that even if you are waiting to file, that you do give yourself enough time to ensure that it is done properly and error free. Filing with incorrect or incomplete information may delay the process even more.
If you are filing on paper, you should contact your local post office and find out which one will be open the latest, it will vary by your location, so contact an office and see which will be open until midnight, there should be several. You will need to make sure that you send this first class and probably registered as well; this will allow the IRS to verify that it was sent before midnight, also verify that you are sending your return to the proper office, you will have to send it to a certain address based on your state of residence, and to ensure their receipt of your forms, clearly print all information correctly on the envelope, including return information, and apply the proper postage amount.
Be sure to make copies of all information you’ve sent, including receipts for deductions, in case of emergency, this can be a life saver. When you arrive at the post office, check for instructions for late filers, there may be a special place to mail your information, but if not, then just mail regularly. By following these few tips, you can ensure that your information will be received on time and hopefully your return will follow shortly!
