Mandated Personal Finance Education for Ohio Students

Tougher Math and Science lessons is not the only change that Ohio students will see in their curriculum in the near future, but also money management courses. Money management courses for Ohio students is set to be added to the their required school coursework in 2010, but could be seen earlier than that. Treasurer Rich Corday has set forth this personal finance lesson for school kids. Cordray is the new State Treasurer who previously spent time as County Treasurer for Franklin County following foreclosures and other delinquent accounts.

After the magnitude of debt that he saw, he felt that it was time to start teaching students at an early age how to manage their money. The large amount of foreclosure stories that stem from Ohio all have a similar ring to them that stems from the fact that some people were just never taught proper money management skills at school or at home.

By adding money management to other courses at community schools, the end result in later years will be less people struggling with debt and more people succeeding financially. Ohio is not the only state that has adapted personal finance into their school courses, and other states are taking the same measures in hopes of creating a better financial life for younger generations.
