Establishing Good Saving Habits
With today's automatic deposits and electronic banking, establishing good saving habits can be as easy as flipping an electronic switch. You can have human resources put a portion of your paycheck in a savings account instead of having it all deposited in a checking account, where it is more readily available. If you pay your savings account first, you will learn how to live on less and you will establish a relatively painless way to save money for emergencies. If you don't find a way to establish good saving habits, what you end up doing is living paycheck to paycheck. If you manage to live this way, the inevitable emergency generally requires getting funds from a credit card, an online payday loan, or from relatives. While these are good choices, an emergency fund put in place by an automatic savings plan is the best choice.
Another way to establish some savings is to pay off small loans first and then instead of spending the extra money, divert it to savings. This takes a little more discipline as you will have to put the money there yourself. Once your emergency fund becomes greater than three month's expenses, invest the surplus and starts having your money make money for you.
If you do not save for a rainy day, it's highly likely that it will rain eventually. Then, you will have to turn to other forms of cash resources like an online payday loan or credit cards. An online payday loan will require you to pay back the loan on the next paycheck cycle, unlike a credit card, which can help you keep to your decision to save instead of getting more in debt with credit cards.
