The holidays are right around the corner and sometimes getting prepared financially can be difficult. With all of the added expenses that come with the holiday season, finding the money to make it home, could have you a little depressed. The holidays are near and this is the time to be close to family and loved ones, sharing the joy of giving.
Nowadays, families can be spread across the globe, but the holidays are that special time of year when we all try to make it home. We want to see our little nieces and nephews, our grandchildren, sisters, brothers, moms, and dads. We want to be close to our dear family. We never know where tomorrow will take us, so being close to those we love, even if only one time a year, is important to us all.
However, if you are low on cash, this can be no small feat. Travelling expenses alone can land us spending the holidays at a distance from those we cherish seeing. The cost of gas doesn’t help much either. Here it is just before Christmas and gas prices are much higher now than they have been all year. This makes it expensive whether you are driving or flying home.
As it has been several years since 9-11 and many people are beginning to feel safe again with traveling by plane, there are more and more people traveling this holiday season. However, with the rising cost in gas prices, airlines are charging double for the same airline ticket that would have been affordable for you in the past. What used to cost you $100 a person is now easily costing $300 a person. When you used to be able to drive home for $50 in gas, you’re easily going to spend $75 to $100. It may not sound like much more, but in the long run that’s several Christmas gifts you could have purchased for your family but it all went in your gas tank.
No matter where you are traveling this year, look for ways to save on your trip. Have more meals at home rather than eating out to save a little money for travel. Consider carpooling with other family members in the area who are traveling to the same location. This will allow you to all split the gas bill. Saving in all the little areas before you leave will help make your trip more affordable and fun in the long run.
