Bills & Bill Paying
The fiendish Fee Ninjas, deadly and devoted servants of subterfuge, sneaking extra charges onto your bill and vanishing in a puff of red ink. Hiding in the terms and conditions, and striking from the small print, the Fee Ninjas can really hurt… unless you know how to fight back.
Thanks to the technological advances of the last decade, worrying about paying for long distance calls is for many people a thing of the past. Most phone plans cover all calls made within the country (and some of them for anywhere in the world), and so with no long distance charges to worry about, phone bills must be plummeting, right?
Wrong. Phone bills grow ever higher, as the phone companies find new things to charge for, and the Fee Ninjas attack harder and faster than ever, trying to wrestle away every extra dollar you have. But you can fight back by knowing how these devious devils get your money. (more…)
The fiendish Fee Ninjas are back, sneaking through the small fine print, tip-toeing in the terms and conditions, striking your wallet with ruthless accuracy. These faceless assassins of wealth are stealthy and silent, and you never see them coming until it’s too late.
Every year the American Customer Satisfaction Index ranks the best and worst companies in the country in terms of customer service. Airlines and banks always fair poorly on this list, but this year they are being forced to make extra room for several major cable companies.
Cox Communication, Comcast, Time Warner Cable, and Charter Communications all made the top ten for lowest-rated companies in America for 2012. Four out of the ten worst customer service companies in the country are cable companies! And why? High prices and suspicious hidden fees are two important reasons.
Cable companies employ Fee Ninjas, because they think you can’t fight back. (more…)
Nobody likes paying bills. We dread our due dates and hate watching our money disappear. Like it or not, we still have to pay for our monthly services. Rent, credit cards, utilities and cable are just a few bills we face, but with some planning and the help of these tips, paying your bills can be much easier and result in better credit, and a stronger financial footing.
Most people have received a call from a bill collector at some point. Sometimes it seems like they have upper hand since the odds are that you actually do owe the money from credit cards to online payday loans – or at least a part of it – that they’re asking about. However collectors are not above the law and debtors have rights.
Collections activities are often conducted across state lines which makes them subject to federal regulation. The government guidelines are known as the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) which is available from the Federal Trade Commission, www.ftc.gov.
The modern household has to have a phone, access to the Internet, and in some cases, even cable is perceived as a necessity. To pay all those bills on time every month, especially when there are spouses and children involved, some people resort to loans by direct deposit. However, instead of using all your hard-earned money just to keep a household running, you can opt to save money on these services with a few hot tips.
It may be harder to find a payday lender to ease your emergency money crisis if something doesn’t happen before June 30th. The industry blossomed after a law was passed regarding the interest rates that could be charged by payday lenders. Before this law in 2000 it was illegal to charge more than 36 percent interest on a loan. After the law that was no longer true. It may seem like you aren’t paying much interest on a one hundred dollar payday loan, but if you look at the annual rate you might be surprised.
Generally you can get a payday loan with no credit check and have a poor credit history. You will pay over three hundred percent for the money so if this is your only option to get some emergency cash you must make sure that you can repay the loan with your next paycheck. If the fees charged for that one hundred dollars was fifteen dollars per one hundred borrowed you would see 391 percent annually. That is why it is so important that you do not get in too deep with payday loans. The quick problem you hoped to avoid could become a deeper debt than paying the overdraft fee or over limit fee.
Personal finance is something we all have to learn about. As children our parents teach us about money. They may even help us learn how to budget, but as adults we often forget the lessons we learned. Budgeting is very important to keep us in our houses, driving our cars, and buying groceries. A company based in Norfolk, Virginia has come up with an innovative product to keep people in their cars.
The Pay Teck Smart Box might be the end of the repo man. The smart box is a small device fitted to certain cars. It is attached to the ignition system of the car. When a person is struggling to make car payments the Pay Teck Smart Box is used. It is meant to keep the customer who is having trouble with their car payments, making the payments.
Many people that find themselves in an emergency situation need to get cash fast. The quickest way to do this is with a payday loan. The easy loan NO FAX required will make it faster as you won’t have to spend time gathering papers to take to a print shop or fax it from your home or office. This is especially nice if you don’t have a fax machine at home and you must use one at work. You can keep everything confidential if you don’t need to fax.
If you are wondering how you go about getting a payday loan it really is quite simple. Whether you use a physical store or the internet you should be able to fill out the application online. This saves time because the loan can be approved faster. Remember that a payday loan is just for a short term emergency until you get paid. Don’t think of it as a long term solution to financial problems.
Are you handy in the kitchen? If so, you have probably found that cooking from scratch saves you tons of money in grocery bills. How about extending your skills to other types of activities that can help save you even more? It can also come in handy in a pinch, when some emergency bills steals your grocery money. While you can opt to get a short-term loan, like a payday loan, the other possibility is to have your food stored away in the pantry or refrigerator to allow you to weather the small financial setback.
Harvest Is Here
Notice food prices being low right now in grocery stores? That’s because the harvest is here and with that comes an abundance of produce. A large supply and average demand means lower prices. Take advantage of that to buy up large quantities of cucumbers for pickling, fruit for jams and jellies, and vegetables for freezing. Take them home and have yourself some fun in the kitchen, while preparing an edible emergency cushion.
This requires some equipment to do, but it’s relatively inexpensive. Be sure you can raise the temperature of the water in your canner to boiling. Some older electric stoves have too small a burner and difficulty reaching the right temperature. Take a canning class at your local community college or check out a book from the library. It’s not as hard as it sounds and the jars are reusable for next year. Once you’ve invested in some quality canning equipment, it can be re-used year after year, except for the lids that need to be replaced.
Canning can allow you to store items on a room temperature shelf without fear of spoiling. You can make pickles, jams, and jellies very easily at home, and for a fraction of the cost it takes to buy them. After you start experimenting you will find that the produce tastes better too, than canned goods from the grocery store. It allows you a way to be creative with recipes and provides hard to beat enjoyment during the winter time, when fresh foods are costly.
If you don’t want to go to all the fuss and bother of canning, there is still freezing. This is the modern way to store lots of food. You don’t even have to cook it, if you don’t want to. You can buy an entire steer from a butcher, share it with a family, and freeze the rest in a large chest freezer. You can take extra produce from the farmer’s market, and freeze fruits and vegetables for use in pies, casseroles, and stews in the winter time. Freezing is very easy, but may have less “shelf life” than canning. It also tends to taste fresher than canning. It can be used with herbs, butters, cheese, and other types of unusual products that you would never consider canning on your own too. Just buy the items when they are cheap at the store, and store them in the freezer until you have a need for them. Add the date you refrigerate them, so you know how old each item is and don’t eat anything too old.
Are you tired of sending checks via mail to pay all your bills? Some people have to send out 10 or more checks each month; and this is when things are slow. If this process is on your nerves, for whatever reason, it may be time to look into paying your bills online. There are many benefits of doing so, and chances are that once you get started you will never look back. (more…)
