No Fax Machine Or Loan Payment Can Use Your Payday Better Than A Summer Trip
As the days grow warmer and longer, that freedom-of-summertime feel returns to even the most jaded of hearts. The long daylight hours allow us to do things in the out of doors until later and later into the evening, reminding most of us of those days of childhood when no ‘real’ responsibilities raised their heads to take a loan out on our time. Even as we deal with a loan on the house, a payday that seems to never come on time, or a broken computer or fax machine, in no uncertain terms, the summertime seems to blunt the irritations of daily life.Coming with that freewheeling, summertime feeling is often a desire to hit the road and travel across the country. When payday finally arrives, it is easy to look at that check and want to brush off the latest loan payment, say no to getting a new fax machine or printer, and just jump in a car, train or plane, and go somewhere, anywhere. Well, why not just go for it? Do you really need a new fax machine? Can you make a smaller loan payment?
Many people have a funny habit of valuing an uncertain future over a knowable present. No matter how miserable some people are in being tied to loan payments, fax machines, and even less important things, they will still hold fast to them. This may come out of a sense of responsibility to family or simply an agreement to a social pact with society that one never really thought about before agreeing to. Regardless of the reasons, many people find themselves actually spending money on things that they spend most of their time cursing, such as a fax machine, than spending it on something like a summertime trip across the country.
It could be that such people, and no single one of us are truly exempt from this to some extent, value those things that we can actually hold, that have a definite tangibility, such as a fax machine, over the less tangible, but emotionally enriching, such as a carefree trip to California or the Florida Keys. Now it is true that a missed loan payment and missing a regular payday for a month or two has certain ramifications that abstaining from purchasing a new fax machine does not have. However, this does not preclude one from finding a way to embrace that summertime urge to get up and go.
Take that catalog filled with fax machines and computer devices and throw it away, or at least hide it from sight. Set aside money from each payday. Economize. Look at the loan payments you have due over the next few months and see if you can’t make a few months of advance payments, even if that means cutting back on some other purchases. This would allow you to not have to think about a loan payment for a while. At the very least, you may be able to find way to reduce your loan payment or loan payments for a short period of time. With this stress off of your mind and away from your immediate demands, you may find the time you need to give in to that summertime pull. Stop making excuses and prepare. A little preparation can go a long way towards allow you to give some needed attention to your emotional needs, and fill your life with a little bit of living.
