Emergencies, Emergency Loans and the Building of Resourcefulness

If you have ever taken a long trip somewhere in the world, you are aware of the possibility of a sudden emergency raising its head. Right in the middle of your trip you could reach for your wallet and find that it is no longer there. The reason for its disappearance doesn’t have to be a nefarious one either. You very well may have simply left your wallet sitting on a counter somewhere. An emergency of this type could require loans to get you through to your final destination. The question is, is such an emergency, and subsequent use of loans, such an awful thing?

The quick answer from most people would be ‘yes’. However, while an emergency, and certainly taking out loans to meet that emergency, could be easily seen in a negative light, that would be a narrow view of the entire nature of travel, and life in general. This is not to say that one should make it a point to run out in an effort to find oneself in an emergency, or that one should take out loans in anticipation of an emergency. The point being made is the simple one that an emergency and anything that must be done in order to cope with that emergency, such as finding loans or assistance from strangers, could help an individual to have a greater understanding of life and one’s interaction as a living being.

Let’s propose a hypothetical emergency situation. Imagine that you are on a trip through Europe, one that you have been planning for quite some time. You have your itinerary all laid out, you have all the money that you need for the entire trip, and all of your valuables are safely secured on your person. You have just visited the winery in the south of France that was on your itinerary, and are heading towards your next destination in Italy. You are sitting on a train and the conductor steps in and asks for your ticket. It is at this moment that you begin your mad, anxiety filled search for your inexplicably missing tickets, wallet, and passport. The emergency has begun.

Taking this emergency situation, it is overly simplistic to write it off by simply stating that you would never allow this to happen due to your attention to detail, or even that you would never leave the country in the first place. For whatever reasons, this emergency has come upon you, and you must now deal with it. While it may ruin your original, well thought out plans for your trip, you have just entered into a world of possibilities based on your wit, wiles and ability to problem solve. In short, this is an opportunity.

An emergency allows you to grab hold of the immediate situation and discover a solution that will allow you to survive. Perhaps you will manage to contact friends or relatives who could help you with emergency loans. Maybe you will find strangers who will trust you with emergency loans. Either way, you will have to rely on strangers to lend you assistance in some form, whether that assistance is a car ride to your consulate, or information as to where you could find the internet so that you might contact someone back at home. One way or another, you will have to deal with the world around you in a manner of a communicative social being, rather than an isolated fiduciary machine, who simply throws money around to accomplish things. An emergency may not be the most desirable of situations, but it can definitely help you to become a more accomplished, resourceful and understanding human being.
